A Trial...Has Come and Gone

Well as we all know, and how our pastor just preached on last Sunday, trials are inevitable. You are either in a trial, just coming out of a trial, or about to be in a trial. Well a trial came our way monday morning. Thankfully, it has already passed (praise the LORD), and thankfully it wasn't too bad in comparison to what so many others are facing. Monday morning Nathan woke up throwing up so we took him to the doc and they (along with us) thought it was the stomach bug (yuck). So poor baby was sick all day and barely taking in any fluids. He did not improve all night and seemed to be in a lot of pain as well so we took him to Children's ER on tuesday morning so that he could get some IV fluids to prevent dehydration. Quickly after describing his symptoms the ER docs called for an ultrasound of his belly and they found that he had an intususeption(similar to a bowel obstruction). They assured us that it is usually fixed by an air enema, which is painful but quick and a fairly easy procedure. Well after 3 tries they decided he needed SURGERY!!!! After working in a hospital for over 5 years the word surgery, especially when in the same sentence with my baby, was a very bad and scary word. They also could not promise us that it would be a simple surgery. Well we were definitley praying hard and God did show us His peace during it all and thankfully the surgery went better than they were expecting and he only has 3 tiny incisions. When they brought my precious baby out on a stretcher and he lifted up his head to look at me i was elated, and praised our Holy God. He was very lethargic from the anesthesia the rest of that day and part of the next but by wednesday afternoon he was sitting up playing and babbling like his old self. We did have to stay at the hospital for 2 nights but got to come home on thursday. Thankfully my mom came into town on tues night to bring us some essentials since we didnt expect such an ordeal. Dan's mom was supposed to come into town this Sunday but caught an earlier flight down on wednesday and will be here for 2 weeks. By the time we came home you wouldn't have know anything was ever wrong with Nathan, he is crawling around and pulling up on everything just as before. Other praises include: the ER was completely empty when we got there on tues so we got quick service; everyone at Children's was extremely nice and helpful; the food was good and they had movies to watch at night(which is good because you dont get much sleep in the hospital); it was great to have family who could come in town; and our friends and neighbors have been so kind and generous. Some lessons learned: although its good to plan(im a BIG planner, and had a full week of activities planned) dont assume that your plan is God's plan. Also, its hard for me to speak on this subject since everything came out ok for us, but we all need to remember that our God is just as holy when things go good or bad.

He did not sleep in this awful industrial looking crib, but once he started feeling better he wanted to move around and i didnt want him to crawl on the hospital floor(yuck) so we would let him play in the crib awhile.

 

He was feeling "all better" once he got home; and especially loved having his grandma in town.
